Sewing Classes

Mondays 10.00am – 12pm
Fridays 1pm – 3pm

Learn all the skills you need to sew with our sewing classes. These classes aim to help you improve your sewing skills and will teach you how to make your own clothes.

The sewing classes are run in partnership with Camden Adult Community Learning.

Women attending the class learn a wide variety of skills.

Beginners learn the basics of how to use a machine and making simple items and home decorations. More advanced students progress to learn how to design and make their own clothes, including traditional, culturally specific garments. Women participating in the Friday classes are also taught how to crochet and knit.

The sewing classes continue to be very popular and there is often a waiting list of women wanting to join the classes. We provide two classes to accommodate the demand for this service.

Women attending these two classes last year received one-to-one support from the tutor and the volunteer.

As well as learning new skills, participants have made good friends and the social contact between the women has been a very positive feature of the classes.

These classes provide a platform of learning and socialising for isolated women in the community.
